Buttermere
Buttermere is 1 1/2 miles long, 3/4 of a mile wide and 75 feet deep. It has an elevation above sea level of 329 feet (100 m). Easy parking by arrangement at Hassness or Birkness on the east side of the lake and a 200m easy walk to the shore line. Beaches are shingle and gently sloping. No special permission is required to dive in the lake. Trout, char, pike, and perch can all be found in the lake.
Diving:
Exploratory dives are possible in all directions from the beach.
A number of power and communications cable run in the lake and a number of rock faces to explore.
Straight out across the lake and return, North West or South East up / down the lake
Due to general access difficulties this Lake is not widely explored
