Marine Conservation – Beach Cleans
Helping to keep our beautiful Cumbrian beaches clean and free from litter that could harm wildlife.

As well as monitoring the amount of litter it is interesting and important to make an analysis of what type of litter is being collected.
Over the years this has led to successful campaigns to stop the production and use of plastic straws, throw away knives and forks and to secure plastic bottle tops to the bottle itself.
A Couple of hours a month spent in the fresh air walking the coast line collecting litter is a wonderful way to help nature
Our last beach clean activity in early December was south from Earnsea Bay Car park alongside the golf course. It was a beautiful, if cold, sunny day.
Sadly quite a few bags of mostly plastic rubbish were removed. There was a significant amount of rope, fishing line and netting along with plastic bottles and cans.
One thing that does occur perhaps more frequently now are the small plastic pots of sauce still given out at some service stations and fast food outlets.
We will be supporting more events next year. All members are invited !
